Mermaids News
We are always coming across weird and wonderful stories to do with Mermaids. We'll admit that this is more of a light entertainment section, but even so!

Like the small town in Florida called Weeki Wachee, north of Tampa, which claims to have more mermaids than humans.

This is the home of the Weeki Wachee Mermaids, a group of just under 30 mermaids who perform shows for the public in an underwater theatre. There are breathing tubes at the bottom of their performance area so that they can stay underwater for the full 30 minutes. There's a similar show in the Mermaid Bar Blitza in Sacrmento, but it's not as well done.

The mermaid show was started in the forties after the war, by former U.S. Navy sailor Newton Perry. The show now entertains a quarter of a million people a year. Pretty impressive.
